Video Online Testing
BPAD Online, 8 Scene Standard Test.
Available for Police, Corrections, Fire, EMS, Dispatcher, Probation and Managers. Entry level and promotions.
BPAD answers the question: “Will this candidate uphold the high values of this organization?”
The standard format for BPAD Online is an 8-scene test.
Candidates watch each job related scene and respond as if they are actually “in the situation”. Their responses are video recorded.
BPAD Online may be administered in house or emailed to your candidates. Departments have the ability to email BPAD Online to candidates who live outside their area, broadening the candidate pool. Unlike written tests – BPAD Online is a secure instrument due to the video recording of each response.
Candidate tests can be scored by BPAD raters, or by your own team of trained raters. Rater training is offered via our video based training or a live in-house training session can be arranged.
At BPAD, it is our belief that the closer you put the candidate to the job they will be doing, the better the assessment. Our process is designed to make the candidates solve difficult situations and prove they have the skills for public safety positions.
BPAD has been used for over 20 years and has many validation studies demonstrating its effectiveness. Validation Research:
Dr. Rand’s concurrent validity study demonstrated the predictive power of BPAD test scores and supervisor ratings. Police supervisor ratings of officer’s interpersonal competence correlated significantly with the BPAD test ratings of interpersonal competence (r = .72, p< .01). See validation studies.
BPAD test scenes are developed with law enforcement Subject Matter Experts (SME’s). They depict the critical incidents that law enforcement professionals will face on the job. The job analysis establishes the link between the test and the job demands and establishes content validity. Numerous studies have shown the predictive power of video testing. Candidate acceptance of BPAD testing is high due to the job relatedness.

How a B-PAD Online Testing Assessment Process Works
Job-Relevant Scenarios
Candidates watch 8 video-based incidents developed alongside law enforcement Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). These scenes simulate realistic, high-pressure situations that public safety personnel face directly on the job.
Candidate Responses
Participants respond directly to each scenario as if they are actively in the situation. Their real-time verbal and behavioral reactions are recorded via video, requiring them to demonstrate actual problem-solving rather than selecting written answers.
Behavioral Evaluation
Scored by trained raters, responses are evaluated on essential competency dimensions, including practical judgment, interpersonal communication, problem-solving under pressure, and alignment with organizational values.
